"It is from numberless acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a person
stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth
a tiny ripple of hope.
-- Robert F. Kennedy |
Mission
The New Mexico Victims' Rights Project is dedicated to providing education and enforcement
of victims' constitutional rights. The Project is a joint effort of the
DWI Resource Center and other victim assistance
organizations, and is available to assist all victims of crime.
The goal of the Victims' Rights Project is to help victims meet their legal, financial and emotional needs
through: pro bono legal counsel; assistance in information and case tracking; representation at court
hearings; assistance in creating victim impact statements and filing for restitution; and facilitating contact
with support groups and other victim resources.

News & Information
Download the 'Pro Se' Court Form
Years ago, crime victims had no rights in the criminal justice system. They could be, and often were, kept out of criminal proceedings. More often than not, victims learned about their own cases through the media, right along with the general public. The demand for a remedy grew strong and in 1987 the first New Mexico Victims’ Rights laws were enacted. In 1992, the citizens voted to adopt a Constitutional Amendment giving certain crime victims Constitutional Rights and enabling laws were passed in 1994.
In an effort to help crime victims assert their rights 'pro se' we created the court form with instructions. Please read all the pages carefully, answer the questions and follow the instructions.
